This image was my first post on SC, but I've never been satisfied with it - the rich barn board just didn't have the "pop" it should have. But it was on track for my portfolio anyway - it was just waiting for... what?... Tonemapping! Now I know what it needed - that rich microcontrast enhancement which tonemapping can provide. After tonemapping the original RAW file, I found that there was too much "pop" - so much so that it competed with the window. So I layed and blended the two versions together until I achieved what I've been struggling to achieve. Here's the original:
